Don’t listen to the sheep…


Have you ever encountered someone that is overly concerned with what others think? They are paralyzed by what someone else might think (or say) they stay stuck for days, months, even years! Afraid to make a choice, make a move, make a decision because (gasp!) what will others think or say?

Why? Why would we give someone our power to someone in that way? You wouldn’t give a stranger power of attorney, would you? Of course not! Then why allow someone else’s thoughts to determine your actions, your direction, your goals…? Think about it. You know what’s best for you so why would you ever allow others to hold you back because they might have a different thought.

Less concern over the thoughts of others leads us to a better life. That’s a fact.

Live abundantly…


There’s always someone who is going to know more than you.
Someone who will know less than you.
Someone who has more than you.
Someone who has less than you.

But no one is exactly like you. And no one has the ability to be grateful what they have in the here and now more so than you do.

Choose to live a life of abundance, get more of the things you really want in life by being grateful for what you already have. Even if the day is bad and you feel like you have a black cloud looming over you. Even when everything is just perfect in your life. Be grateful for the here and now, what you have and watch more of the good stuff come to you.

The key is focus on the good; whether it’s good health, sunshine on your face, food in your pantry, a good friend to share with, unconditional love from a four-legged furry friend…whatever it may be. Be grateful for what you have today so you can have more tomorrow.

Enter through the door…

chinese proverb

There’s a Chinese Proverb that states “Teachers open the door; but you must enter by yourself.

Every single day is an opportunity to walk through a door because teachers are everywhere in our lives. No, seriously, they are…look around you. And the teaching isn’t just what you would think you’d learn in school…no, it’s much more than that. There are teachers that teach us about love and live and friendship and gardening and loving our self and others and how to be a better parent or how to be a better child and a better way to get where we are going and the list goes on and on.

No matter if you’re school age or a “seasoned” human…there is a lot to learn and know but you must be open to it and walk through the door when it’s opened.

Top regrets…

regrets of dying

I was speaking with a friend this morning  about commitments and this seemed to fall perfectly in that thought track…the top five regrets of the dying. I read the full article and research that went with it and it was powerful and moving.

When you think about your commitments to yourself, keep these in mind.
Don’t worry about working that one extra hour, go home and be with friends or family.
Express yourself and your feelings even if they are counter to someone else’s – they are your feelings and they are valid.

Stay in touch with friends, even if it is over FB or Twitter – both are valid forms of communication.
Be who you were meant to me, and if that means you’re happy working as a waitress even if others want you to do more – be the best dang waitress ever and be.

And be happy…with you, with your life, with what you have – what you have is a lot.

Commitment to self…

Commitments to our self too often get lost in the shuffle of the day-to-day.

What are some of the commitments you’ve made that you’ve ignored or pushed to the side?
Eating healthy, exercising, spending more time with loved ones, meditating, going back to school…?

Life doesn’t just happen. Get back to your commitments – pick one and plan the time for it.

Quiet your mind…


Quieting your mind is the best way to hear yourself and gain clarity. It provides the opportunity for meditation and growth.

Whenever you want to move forward, taking a moment to quiet your mind is key.
The challenge to quieting your mind is; it’s not always easy or wanted. When our mind is quiet we see parts of our self that aren’t the easiest to deal with. And other thoughts are always trying to creep in.

Quieting your mind isn’t about being completely quiet – it’s about remembering what you’re setting out to do. When other thoughts try to wedge into your mind, you don’t have to focus on them, look towards the quiet. Allow the real you to be there, the real you is on a journey and just like Dorothy in Oz, you meet characters you really like and some you don’t. But you get to choose your companions. So choose the parts of you that best provide while on your journey.

Give it a good cry…

Do you feel the need to be strong not just for yourself but for those around you? The kind of strong where you don’t shed a tear, you make the quick decision and get everyone else to get in line and do?

Being strong can take a lot out of a person. We all have moments when a good cry would feel so darn good but too many of us think a good cry is a sign of weakness so we don’t allow ourselves the chance to do that.

Crying is a great form of release. It releases energy and allows us to feel better. To feel free. To gain better perspective.

If you feel like you’re struggling to go on, maybe a good cry (a release of energy) is exactly what you could use. You’re not weak when you cry, you’re actually creating strength.
Give it a shot.

What would your guidelines for healthy/happy living be?
How about less worry and more good sleep.
Or less anger and more laughter!
Or impeccable words followed by action.
Or few miles driven and more miles walked.
A favorite of mine; less life through TV and more live action living.
Or less yelling and more smiling.
Or less concern over being on-time or late and more stopping for a good pic, a great chat, or a sight you’ve never seen.

Those are just a few guidelines (note that they are not rules), what guidelines would you add?

Do you practice your optimism?


Optimism Gets Better with Use

Have you ever met someone that you know doesn’t have an ounce of optimism in their body?  They stand out in a crowd – they have that little virtual dark cloud above their heads, personally I avoid them.

Positive people practice their optimism! When “life” gives them lemons they really do figure out how make lemonade, or lemon curd, or lemon chicken – from something bad to something wonderful.   It isn’t always easy, some challenges in life are tougher than others but the positive people come out on top. Why? They practice their optimism, much like practicing a martial art, they have the ability to use it when needed, becoming seamless and fundamental to their existence.

What are you working for…

Pay To

What are you working for, a paycheck or because you love what you do? If you’re working for a paycheck and just a paycheck – every day at work can be a soul-crushing journey.

Sure, sometimes due to circumstances we have to take a job just for the paycheck but if every single day is just a paycheck job, well, it’s like being in prison.

There has to be some passion around that work or at the very least, it has to be interesting.
If work is something you suffer through, then design your life differently. Think about the amount of time you spend at work – do you really want to come to a place and do a job that doesn’t interest you and brings about no passion?

Do work that defines you. Do work that you enjoy and look forward to. Do work that is more than just making a living, do work that brings about fulfillment for you.

The more interested we are in the work we do, the higher our quality of said work and the higher our happiness can be. Settling for a paycheck is all good and well, for a bit, but eventually the money gets spent and then what do you have?

Get interested again.
